THE MOON--RULED BY PICES
KEYWORDS: Changes, illusions, drugs, drinking.
Spiritual Meaning: The need to make a conscious effort to see situations clearly.
Again we encounter a card of evolution. Unlike The Wheel of Fortune, which is the evolution of the higher, this card represents the evolution of the lower forms.
When you look at the card you will see the crab crawling out of the water. Again, the water represents the subconscious, and the evolutionary process begins here. The crab begins the journey on the path and evolves into the wolf, then into the dog. This card represents the evolution of our emotions, and the manmade towers in the background indicate that we must continue to evolve until we have reached our own emotional evolution and can build our own towers, or foundations.
The Moon, Astrological Ruler of this card, is ruled by Pices. In this case the Moon is symbolic of our emotions and the card tells us that it is up to us to make a conscious effort to get them under control, to strive for our own emotional evolution.
This card also means deception, but not deception by another person, but self-deception. It means that it is necessary for you to learn to see things clearly and not let your emotions get in the way and continue to deceive yourself.
In Numerology, Eighteen, the number of this card, combines to make the number Nine. Nine's are endings and losses, and here it indicates a need to lose your unproductive thinking process and begin over again.
An example of what this card may mean in a reading would be a case where the querent is planning, or thinking about, or says they are thinking about, making a change in their job. If this card appears in the spread in the area relating to their career, or job, it would indicate that this line of thinking is self-deceptive and they will not change their job.
The Moon also rules drugs, drinking, smoking, and any other form of hallucinogenic or addictive substance. Although this interpretation should be used with caution, the appearance of The Moon can indicate that there may be a problem in this area and that use of one of these substances is the reason for the self-deception.
